For decades, I have been making a living as a freelance writer. In this article, I want to capture some of the key elements in this process. I've written this article early in this publication with intention. Everyone who makes money freelance writing needs these key elements. At the end I will give you a practical example of how you can make money and a resource.
Mindset. Your attitude or mindset is a critical aspect of making money with freelance writing. To succeed, you have to understand that you are creating a business. It is not a hobby but like any business, you will have to attract customers (market your business). You have to fulfill the expectations of your audinece and regularly communicate with them.
Promotion. The great circus promoter, PT Barnum said, “Without promotion something terrible happens—nothing.” Every freelance writer has to promote the fact that they are in busness. Word of mouth is the most effective type of promotion. There are numerous other tools including social media (a variety of possibilities) and email. You will have to tell others that you are available for freelance writing assignments or they simply will not know to hire you. Your consistent promotion is one of the keys to your success.
Tools. Each of us have 24 hours in our day. You need to be using the right tools to make money as a freelance writer. In these articles, I will be pointing out some of the tools that I use every day. A number of these tools are free but others have a cost. When they cost, you have to decide if a tool will yield enough value for your writing business. Tools are used for promotion, writing, and even collecting money.
Consistency. To succeed at this process, you will have to be consistently writing, pitching your business and availability to others. Your constant action-taking is a necessary part of this process. It's one of the reasons my blog has over 1500 entries in it. I've been writing it once a week for years. There is a lot of information on my blog and it is also searchable. Scroll down and in the right-hand column there is a search tool which you can use to find information.
Multiple Streams of Income. Years ago, people would work at a single career for their entire life. Our world has changed and as a freelance writer, you need to create multiple ways to earn money. Some days your income will come from one source and another day, it will come from another. Part of what I'll be doing thorugh these aricles is pointing out some of these possibilities.
Begin as a side hustle. The process of success is not instant or overnight. It is a gradual and building process. A common bit of advice is true here: “Don't quit your day job.” You should begin this process as a side hustle or something you do in your spare time. If it takes off, it may become your full-time work but you can't know that detail when you begin.Simple Membership System
These are only a few of the keys to success making money freelance writing. Do you have a skill or something you teach to others? You can create a business around it using the Simple Membership System. I encourage you to follow this link and consider getting this system. Unlike some online products, which only tell you part of the story (a type of switch and bait). The Simple Membership System is a complete system that you can use to create an online course. For even more information, I have a free teleseminar about how to get more mileage out of your content (follow the link).
As an example of how to use the Simple Membership System, I created my Write a Book Proposal course (follow the link). Notice each of these programs come with my 30 Day Love-It-Or-Leave-It Guarantee. You can try the course risk-free.
What type of online course are you going to create? Write down your idea, get the course, take the course, take action to set up your own resource then be consistently promoting it through various resources
